Talk of Fashion

Your appearance really matters in everywhere you find yourself. Your appearance speaks alot about you, even before what you have to say is heard. It’s good to look gorgeous every now and then, nothing puts a smile on your audiences’ face than having their host looking stunning!
We’ll be looking at various outfits that suits various occasions, but today, we’ll be talking about outfits for ceremonies popularly called “OWANBE” by the extremely social people and “AFOPE” by Students. Nothing puts a smile on an average Nigerian face than “there’s an AFOPE or OWANBE this Friday, Saturday or Sunday”. People tend to have a great zeal for these parties because the way they’ll arrange what outfit will look good for the “AFOPE or OWANBE” is surprising. After washing, they’ll starch it and then give it a great ironing. Jeez you’ll think they’re the celebrant! It’s a good thing anyways. Owanbe is a Yoruba word gotten from the sequence O-wa-ni-be which literally means “it is here”, but the connotative meaning ia “the party is happening here”. Common types of owanbe includes wedding parties, birthday parties, retirement parties, coronation ceremonies, burial for old people and so on.

Owanbe in Nigeria is something that can never be overemphasized. This is simply because, despite the fact that it is an expensive celebration, it also comes with loads of happiness and merriment, this is why some would do everything in their power to make it worthwhile. The women are the ones that daze us with various extravagant styles and are often posted on social media and published in fashion magazine. At a typical Owanbe, you would find women slaying in their beautiful outfit, men in Atiku, enough food, drinks and souvenirs for everyone.
