The latest meeting between ASUU and FG, held on Monday Night (10th Dec, 2018) has ended without any resolution at sight. The Federal Government, once again, promised that they are "taking all necessary steps" to ensure that ASUU
demands are met. The Union on the other hand said they would wait until after the next meeting on 17th Dec, 2018 to decide whether or not to call off the strike.
The meeting was presided by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige since the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education were both absent. In attendance for ASUU were the ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba amongst others.
Based on the address given by the ASUU President, the Union is willing to wait until after the meeting on 17th Dec, to know how serious the Federal Government is in implementing certain agreements filed by ASUU.
The current ASUU strike is to protest the poor funding of Nigerian Universities, the alleged plot to increase students’ fees, introduction of an education bank, as well as non-implementation of previous agreements, among other issues.
ASUU Strike continues until 17th Dec.
