As effort intensifies to solving the impending
crisis facing Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, the
Student Union Executives have met the school
management over the commencement of the
second semester examination.
Following a release sent by the SU Public
Relations Officer, Aduragbemi Taiwo, Press
Club Mapoly learnt that the executives met
with the Deputy Rector, Ayodeji Tella, who
assured that the school would soon commence
payment of outstanding salaries to staffs.
"The Students’ Union Government executives
led by the President, Comrade Owoiya Rasaq on
Monday stormed the office of the Deputy
Rector to hold a closed door meeting with him
over the commencement of our second semester
examination.
"The meeting which lasted for two-hours led to
an agreement between the Students’ body and
the school management to start paying the
December salary of both the Academic and Non-
Academic staff of the Polytechnic. The school
management also promised to pay the salaries
before Friday 18, January 2019", the release
reads.
Recall that the students executives alongside
ASUP Mapoly chapter representatives had
earlier met with the Former President of
Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, to seek advice in
redeeming the image of the institution. Also,
student leaders across various departments
had concluded plans to meet with the school
management in resolving the crises.
PCM reliably gathered that ASUP Mapoly showed
interest in joining the national strike due to
non payment of allowance among other issues
stated.
When asked about the date for resumption,
Tella said, "there is noting the Polytechnic
leadership could do to resolve the crisis if the
nationwide ASUP strike is still Ongoing."
However, the executives called for the
corporation of students saying that, "We need
to be united and be prayerful so that our
agitation can yield a positive result. Our dear
colleagues, you should know that, we would
never trade our future of over 30,000
Mapaites for stipend.
" By God’s grace, the issue of examination will
be resolved soon and we are reiterating our
commitment that nothing would discourage us
until we find a lasting solution to the crisis in
the school. "
