Nigerians on Twitter have reacted to the commencement of indefinite strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday and the plan by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to followsuit on Tuesday
ASUU embarked on strike to protest the poor funding of Nigerian universities and alleged plan by the federal government to increase students fees and introduce an education bank.
I share the belief that ASUU strike is a peaceful & justifiable action to save public universities in https://t.co/zEhmIPesN4 70$ per barrel,Nigeria can afford to adequately fund public univ.Elites in power who can afford to educate their wards abroad, should have some honour.— Senator Shehu Sani (@ShehuSani) November 5, 2018
I hope that the people angling for our votes in 2019 will set out clear plans for how to stop the incessant ASUU strikes. How they’ll improve basic literacy and numeracy. How they’ll deal with out-of-school children. How they’ll get our hospitals to work for everyone. I hope.— Dr. Joe Abah (@DrJoeAbah) November 5, 2018
Buhari’s handling of the education sector is nothing to write home about. ASUU has gone on strike 3 times since 2015. Number of out of school kids is growing. Infrastructure, worse. No sane policy formulation/implementation. The Minister cannot even clearly articulate his views.— Dr. Dípò (The Career/Jobs🔌) (@OgbeniDipo) November 5, 2018
The worse thing about ASUU strike is that the duration is unpredictable. It could last a week or last so long that your course mates will marry & give births to 3kids before it ends.2013 Strike i left school slim, resumed in 2014 an Orobo😭— KinG NomSo👑 (@ani_nomso) November 5, 2018
